The Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curators Fellowship FAQs
How can I make a donation?
Donations can be made by credit card by purchasing a limited-edition Idris Khan face mask or a John Akomfrah artist edition.
How much will go towards the Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curators Fellowship?
If you purchase a limited-edition Idris Khan face mask 100% of sales proceeds (less shipping costs and taxes) will go to the Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curators Fellowship. (Fellowship).
All proceeds from sales of the face masks and 60% of the proceeds from sales of the editions (excluding shipping and taxes) and any donations made up to a total of £45,000 will be donated to Chisenhale Gallery Limited, a registered charity (number 1026175). Any proceeds and donations collected thereafter will go towards the Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curators Fellowship.
How does my donation make a difference?
The Fellowship will create opportunities for individuals traditionally excluded from the curatorial field in the arts.
Your donation will help place the chosen curatorial fellow into a partner gallery, five days per week for a period of 12 - 18 months, during which they will gain significant experience across a range of different areas, including: programme planning and research, installation / de-installation of exhibitions, communications, audience development, fundraising and event management. The inaugural 2020 Fellowship will be realised in partnership Chisenhale Gallery, who have a well-established track record of providing high-quality training and professional development to emerging curators.
Your donation will help address racial disparities in the UK visual arts sector and provides structured mentoring for young people looking to develop a career in curating, through 12-18 months paid placements within prestigious UK-based arts organisation.
How is the Curatorial Fellow chosen?
The recruitment process for each curatorial fellow will be implemented with thoroughness and transparency. Shortlisting will occur with name-blind recruitment in place. The partner gallery will invite applicants to share a personal written reflection on challenges they may have encountered or have had to overcome, along with change they wish to see implemented in the UK visual arts sector. These insights will form the basis of the decision made by the partner gallery and allow an understanding of each candidate’s professional journey and ambitions, beyond their standard curatorial competencies.
How are Frieze and Deutsche Bank supporting the Fellowship?
Frieze and Deutsche Bank wish to support the annual fellowship and cover the fellow’s salary, travel, research and professional development. The Fellowship will be supported by 100% of sales proceeds (less shipping costs and taxes) from protective face masks, designed by celebrated British artist Idris Khan. Frieze and Deutsche Bank have funded the costs of producing the face masks.
